IR sensors for remote controls: increasing efficiency and safety in industrial remote control

Efficient and safe operations are the goal of any industrial activity using remote control systems, whether radio or wired. Today, the reliability and precision of these systems can be enhanced through additional options.

The infrared system for remote controls developed by AUTEC is one such solution: by improving command efficiency and remote machine management, it enhances operational safety and reliability.

Imagine being able to define exactly where a machine can move and where the operator must stand to activate a specific movement. This is now possible thanks to AUTEC’s infrared remote-control system. Let’s explore the technology.

A step back: how does an IR sensor work?

AUTEC’s infrared enabling system is based on technology that combines simplicity and effectiveness.

It works through a simple mechanism:

  • An illuminator emits a beam of infrared rays (invisible to the human eye and completely safe for the operator)
  • A sensor detects the rays emitted by the illuminator

Depending on whether the infrared radiation is detected, the system enables or blocks specific operations.

The main advantages of an infrared system are that it does not interfere with radio waves and covers a clearly defined operational area, making it ideal for industrial machine remote control.

What AUTEC IR sensors for remote controls enable:

  • IR START-UP: Machine start-up is permitted only within a specific area covered by the IR sensor.

  • IR RANGE LIMITING: Both machine start-up and remote control usage are restricted to a defined area.

  • IR COMMAND ENABLE: Specific movements are enabled only within a designated zone. For example, you could limit load release movement to a predefined safety zone: the operator could send the command only from a nearby area, ensuring visual supervision and safe positioning.

Other benefits of using IR sensors in remote control systems

Installing IR sensors on a remote control opens up a wide range of operational possibilities.
The infrared system enables you to refine workflows, define operational areas, authorize specific machines and movements, and set safety perimeters.

All this with a signal immune to electromagnetic interference, with adjustable coverage distance and emission angle.
